Challenge

Global Vision was selected from a competitive group of IT Development Companies to build and implement a new Foreign Exchange point of sale application for Master Currency’s existing national 16 branch network.

Although no specific technology was specified, the solution
needed to be platform independent.
The system had to be maintained in a state that was consistent
with pre-defined business rules.
Master Currency was concerned about the time required for
their users to become acquainted with the new solution and
so they asked if the new look and feel could look identical to
the legacy application.
The system had to be reliable 24/7 so as to ensure
transaction processing free of interruption, no matter
whether a head office server or a connection line across
the WAN went down.
The system had to have built-in redundancy to ensure
that system failures were dealt with automatically and
transparently.
Data had to be consolidated at the head office as soon
as possible.
The system had to be maintainable to allow for
future changes in business requirements.

Solution

Global Vision conceptualised, analysed and built a 3-tier point-of-sale application called Genesis. Genesis consists of a Macromedia flash interface, which ensured that this browser application looked almost identical to the old 3.1 desktop application. As a result, staff receptiveness to the solution was great. A MS SQL 2000 database and a customised business rule module was implemented. The 24 individual nationwide branches all use Genesis locally and utilise MS SQL Replication to communicate with the head office in Cape Town. The database communication is via the WAN.

Genesis integrates into Global Visions Intranet application installed at Master Currency. Genesis also offers:
Treasury Desk - to distribute live exchange rates to branches and manage the overall company currency positions.
Ref Data Central - to manage all branch reference data.
Managerial Reporting - giving key management access to detailed branch data.
CRM - applications to manage the customer relationships.
Department Dashboards - each department has a customised dashboard interface that consolidates all relevant functionality specific to the department.
Consolidation and Interface Manager - manages and monitors all consolidation and interface processes with external and 3rd party applications

Results

Master Currency now has a cutting edge application that has met all of their requirements and provides a superb platform on which to grow their business. They have come to regard Global Vision as their trusted IT strategy and development partner.
